if you want others to be happy, practice compassion if you want to be happy, practice compassion.

the love of God, unutterable and perfect.
flows into a pure soul the way that light
rushes into a transparent object.
the more love that it finds, the more it gives
itself; so that, as we grow clear and open,
the more complete the joy of heaven is.
and the more souls who resonate together,
the greater the intensity of their love,
and, mirror-like, each soul reflects the other.

goodnight God.
I hope you are having
a good time being the world.
I like the world very much
I'm glad you made the plants
and trees survive with the
rain and summers.
when summer is nearly near
the leaves begin to fall.
I hope you have a good time
being the world.
I like how God feels around
everyone in the world.
God, I am very happy that
I live on you.
your arms clasp around the world.
I like you and your friends.
every time I open my eyes
I see the gleaming sun.
I like the animals - the deer,
and us creatures of the world,
the mammals.
I love my dear friends.

god meant things to be much easier than we have made them

most of our life is unimportant, filled with trivial things from morning till night but when it is transformed by love it is of interest even to the angels.
|
no one has the right to sit down and feel hopeless there's too much work to do.
|
we have all known the long loneliness, and we have learned that the only solution is love, and that love comes with community.

what we do is very little, but it is like the little boy with a few loaves of fishes • christ took that little and increased it • he will do the rest • what we do is so little we may seem to be constantly failing • but so did He fail • he met with apparent failure on the cross • but unless the seed fall into the earth and die, there is no harvest • and why must we see results? our work is to sow • another generation is to reap the harvest.

prayers wait patiently
in the hollows of trees,
in the blue between clouds,
at a long red light.
they wait patiently
in the warm, quick heartbeats
of small animals and infants.
they wait for a mouth to form them,
for a heart to give them life.
they are unmined jewels
ready to shine.

there is no less enlightenment under the tree by your street than there was under Buddha’s bo tree.

it's like driving a car at night you never see further than your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.

beloved teacher, like a great ship crossing the perilous ocean to the dry land of liberation, dispel the darkness of ignorance... like a father and mother, give your love to all sentient beings... like a river of compassion, soothe the torments of those caught in the cycle of worldly existence... release the beings in all realms • may they attain freedom.

what you always did
you will get what you
