Rebecca got introduced to Yoga through the Kripalu Yoga and Resort Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. The summer before going to Parsons School of Design she stayed at Kripalu and immersed herself in the Yogic lifestyle for three months. Rebecca left Kripalu inspired and ready to devote her life to Yoga.
A friend of hers at Kripalu recommended Vippasana meditation courses in Shelburne Falls, MA (free 10 day courses where you are silent). She went 7 times and began to deepen her meditation. She followed her Buddhist meditation in combination with attending a 21 day retreat with Vietnamese Buddhist Master Thich Nanh Hanh. At Kripalu, she met the director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. On returning to the city for college she enrolled also in this year long course where she received her certificate to be a certified Holistic Health Counselor A.A.D.P. in June of 1999.
Rebecca continued her studiesat the Jivamukti Yoga Center started by Sharon Gannon and David Life in the heart of the East Village when she was 17, and began practicing there every day. In the middle of her sophomore year in college she took a leave of absence to take Jivamukti's year long 2,000 hour training program. During the summer of Jivamukti training, she went to Yogaville, an Ashram founded by the late Sri Swami Satchidananda in Virginia, and lived there for two months to deepen her connection with Yoga and practice teaching. She graduated Jivamukti training in March of 2000.
In November 2001, Rebecca took a 50 hour Anusara Yoga level 2 teacher training at Laughing Lotus with Amy Ippoliti. She has been continuing her studies of Anusara, which means flowing with grace, the method developed by John Friend. Rebecca took another (50 hour) course at Laughing Lotus called Ancient Ayurveda taught by Ghandharva Sauls, and graduated in February of 2002. The course incorporates Yoga with Ayurveda and helps balance physical ailments through Yoga .
In June of 2002, Rebecca went to Amma's Ashram in Kerala, South India. Amma is known as the "Hugging Mother" and does a yearly tour of the US to hug thousands. Finding Amma's teachings soul stirring and her Bhajans (devotional singing) ecstatic, Rebecca has found a path to walk on. She has been learning to play the harmonium and chant many of Amma's devotional songs. She reads from Amma's books in class and tries to keep her heart filled with the intensity of love she finds in Amma.
Rebecca has led a workshop on Bhakti devotion at Crunch, co-taught a workshop with Bhagavan Das at the OpenCenter, and lead a retreat with Kevin Mcracken in the Berkshires during May 10-12, 2002. She has taught at Life and Motion Yoga Center, Crunch Fitness, Golds Gym, Reebok, Sports Club L.A, Jivamukti, Ravi Yoga, Jai Yoga, and at numerous other places. In her classes, she combines chanting and reading from the scriptures with her love of movement into a strenuous and challenging Vinyasa flow. Every class has a theme which draws upon a spiritual focus while working on a specific asana, or pose. Rebecca's main inspiration is her Guru Amma Mata Amritanandamayi Ma, who embodies Yoga and the essence of love.
